Stove off. Travel on.

Though I did recently make a variation on this Finnish flatbread, my oven and stove haven’t seen much action recently.

That doesn’t mean I haven’t had great meals. In the past few weeks I’ve visited an Ohio City staple, Market Garden Brewery, which was exceptional as always; stopped for a kick ass burger at Fox & Hound in Parma; and stuck around home with a visit to Deagan’s Kitchen & Bar in Lakewood, I recommend the duck confit mac & cheese or the chicken & waffle.

Also attended a baby shower during a snow storm during which my city of residence ran out of road salt. I cussed a lot, but I made it to and home from the shower. It was at Players on Madison in Lakewood. I played was coerced in to playing shower games. Players has a very good mimosa and makes a mean spring vegetable risotto.

I also visited my alma mater, Ohio University, in January. It was fun. I stayed sober, which is a feat given Athens’ reputation. I’ve been staying off the hooch for a while, it has really been triggering migraines and headaches lately. I’m very put out by that notion.

Anyway, I did have a beer though I didn’t finish it–I KNOW, total party foul. More importantly I went to O’Betty’s Red Hot, the best hot dog restaurant in Ohio. Got my usual: a Tempest, all beef dog w/ hot habanero salsa, sour cream, chopped jalapenos, and shredded sharp cheddar cheese ($3.50); small side of hand-cut fries ($2.75); and a root beer ($1.25). Root beer is just what you order when you go to O’Betty’s.

Part of my leftover flatbread went to a couple breakfasts with yogurt, strawberries, cinnamon, and honey. Some friends have told me is just an open-face Poptart. Can’t lie, this is very true.
